Mass Product of Beer Bottles, Rows of glass production alcohol on industrial conveyor belt

You wouldn’t think it, but vacuum pumps are an essential part of the beer bottling industry. Throughout different stages of cleaning, filling and sealing, Atlas Copco vacuum pumps support beer bottling processes in breweries all around the world. Enabling efficient, hygienic, and seamless operations always.

But where there’s beer, there will be beer foam.

While it may be something people love to see when pouring a glass, excess beer foam can hamper the bottling process. It can compromise the vacuum line, affect the quality of output, and create a messy working environment. Not to mention the high water and energy costs that go in trying to clean and control the foam produced.

After analyzing the challenge, we designed and developed a sustainable, water-saving solution that solved this issue easily – the Beer Foam Separator (BFS 900). A system that is designed to be used in combination with our GHS VSD+ screw vacuum pump.

Why do industries need the Beer Foam Separator?

The BFS 900 is an easy to control system that requires zero water consumption, making it a smart and sustainable choice for beer producers. In a time when preservation of natural resources is a prime focus for industries, we need more solutions that reduce not just wastage but consumption as well. That’s why we designed the BFS 900 to be a system that requires zero water to function. Apart from that, it can also help you save significantly on energy costs too.

If no water is needed, how exactly does the separator work?

The BFS 900 is intelligently designed to tackle the excess foaming issue through an interesting series of steps.

When the excess foam that is deliberately produced by counter-pressure filling in high-speed filling machines enters the vacuum system, it is effectively collapsed in the foam separator by a calming section. The system has a large diameter for foam settling so overflowing is not an issue.

The rising liquid level is detected by appropriate sensors and an automatic separation process is initiated by an air lock consisting of electro-pneumatic actuators and a receiver tank. The entire system is clean-in-place (CIP) capable and shower ball controlled to run the filter in different modes.

Warm-up phases of the vacuum pump are automatically initiated at system startup and ensure smooth overall function. The BFS 900 also has a self-draining tank and control cabinet with PLC that allows you to control the entire system easily.

What are the benefits of the Atlas Copco Beer Foam Separator?

The BFS 900’s intelligent design delivers several benefits for beer manufacturers and beer bottling operations looking to make their process more efficient and lower the rejection rate of over and underfilled bottles.

• It saves on water

Compared to other technologies, the BFS 900 requires zero water to function.

• It cuts energy costs

Coupled with GHS VSD+ efficient technology, it delivers up to 40% energy savings versus traditional technologies.

• It’s durable

The outer construction is made of 304 stainless steel, making it resistant to corrosion and contamination.

• It’s easy to maintain

The system is clean-in-place (CIP) capable which makes onsite maintenance and clean-ups easier.

• It can auto-drain

Control valves are in place to automatically drain, vent, and isolate system components.

• It has reliable sensors

Level sensors measure beer collected in the drain tank and radar type sensors measure foam level.

Cost-effective and operationally efficient – that’s what makes our Beer Foam Separator a real valuable asset for the beer industries. If you’re looking to enhance your beer bottling process for years to come, you can’t overlook this intelligent solution!
