Energy Recovery Systems

Don't Waste Your Heat!

Achieve energy efficiency with Variable Speed Drive (VSD)

Industrial Vacuum Pumps are widely used across various industries worldwide. However, generating a vacuum comes with a significant cost - primarily in terms of energy. In fact, energy costs make up the largest portion of the total cost of ownership of a vacuum pump.

The good news is that there are opportunities to minimize these costs. By running a vacuum pump as a Variable Speed Pump, you can potentially save up to 50% of energy. Additionally, optimizing the vacuum system to detect and fix any leakages, and ensuring it operates at the required operating point, can further prevent energy wastage.

But there's another opportunity that often goes unnoticed. When generating a vacuum, air needs to be compressed, and this compression process generates a substantial amount of heat. Unfortunately, this heat is typically dissipated into the environment. Why let this valuable heat go to waste when it can be utilized for other processes or purposes? By redirecting the hot cooling air flow to areas that require heating, such as production halls or other buildings, a significant portion of the generated heat can be recovered.

Incorporating an Energy Recovery unit into the vacuum pump

Vacuum Pump with built in Heat exchanger

Another energy-efficient solution is to incorporate an Energy Recovery unit into the vacuum pump. This built-in heat exchanger connects the hot oil circuit of the pump to a water circuit at the production site. The elevated water temperatures in the water circuit can then be used for various purposes or processes that require warm or hot water. This Energy Recovery system can recover up to 70-80% of the total power consumption from the vacuum pump and is available on the GHS 1300–1900 VSD+, GHS 1402–2002 VSD+, and GHS 3800–5400 VSD+ series of oil-injected screw vacuum pumps with variable speed drive. It can be installed as a factory-mounted option on new machines or as a retro-fit kit for pumps already in the field.
