READ : Atlas Copco Gas and Process and Axens sign Memorandum of Understanding for CCUS market cooperation

Two of the technology leaders in CCUS, Atlas Copco Gas and Process and Axens, are now bundling technology competencies through a newly signed non-exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaboration aims to serve customers in the carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) market by combining Axens’ expertise in CO₂ capture and purification with Atlas Copco’s experience in compression systems. Together, we will explore opportunities to provide integrated and optimized solutions for CO₂ capture, purification, and compression—supporting the wider deployment of CCUS technologies across industries.

One key pillar for Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCS) in being a vital contributor for the global energy transition is the readiness and availability of proven technology. With that in mind, two of the CCUS industry’s main players have now joined their respective technological competences: Turbomachinery solutions provider Atlas Copco Gas and Process and AxensGroup have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaborating in the area of CCUS applications.

Axens Group is a leading global provider of technologies and services for the energy transition, including CCUS. Axens offers an extensive range of solutions that encompass the entire CO2 value chain. This includes capturing CO2 at emission sources, such asfuel combustion and industrial processes, purifying the CO2, and utilizing it in various applications. These applications enable the production of fuels and molecules using alternative carbon feedstocks, such as biomass or CO2.

A partnership on multiple levels

The MoU, for example, includes mutual marketing activities and collaboration to connect respectives solutions in the value chain and propose an optimized offer to the market. One example is heat recovery and energy-efficiency solutions aimed to enhance process performance in CCUS applications -- especially those using cooling water-generated heat from the CO2 compressor. Additionally, Atlas Copco Gas and Process will be included on Axens’ prefered vendor list, and vice-versa, ultimately strengthening the companies’ visibility in upcoming projects. Atlas Copco and Axens will also collaborate on a project basis: If it is preferred by the end customer, a combined package solution will be offered to customers.

“This partnership goes hand-in-hand with our growing focus on CCUS activities: We consider Axens’ technology to be well-aligned with the CCUS applications Atlas Copco Gas and Process covers,” says Ulrich Schmitz, Vice President Marketing in Gas and Process. ''

“This collaboration supports our ambition to lead in sustainable industrial solutions and reinforces our position in the decarbonization value chain”, adds Rachid Chennit, Vice President of Axens Low Carbon Solutions and Gas.''

Generally, under the agreement, CCUS applications will encompass CO2 capture processes from multiple carbon emission sources (pre and post combustion), and removal of various impurities from the captured CO2, as well as CO2 compression process, heat recovery process and heat pump applications.
