Frequently Asked Questions about tool and torque calibration services
Why do I have to calibrate my tools?
There are millions of reasons to calibrate. Calibrated tools and related measurement equipment are crucial to performance, quality, and safety. Organizations certified to different ISO and national standards must calibrate all their tools and measurement equipment according to applicable rules. Also, you need to make sure that results are traceable and that the provider performing the calibrations is accredited. Following these simple rules will allow you to save money while assuring the best quality levels.
What does traceability mean in calibration?
In calibration, traceability describes a process where the tool is calibrated by more accurate equipment according to a national standard. Professional calibration services ensure that the reference equipment itself is calibrated by a national lab to guarantee even higher accuracy than the tool. This chain of events provides what we define as “traceability” of our results.
What standards are commonly used for calibrating tools?
ISO 5393 is a comprehensive performance test method for power tools, and our standard tool calibration Machine Capability Test incorporates selected parts of this standard. German OEMs have developed a new Machine Capability Test standard, VDI/VDE 2645–2, which allows certification of either the entire tool or the tool for a specific application. This standard supports both torque calibration and angle calibration, ensuring high levels of quality assurance calibration. When performed through accredited calibration services, these tests guarantee reliable and traceable results that meet highest industry requirements.
