Wastewater treatment plant saves up to 17% on energy

ZS VSD screw blower technology hade made the Sandoz effluent treatment plant in Navi Mumbai, India, reduce their total carbon footprint with 1.5% and their energy usage with 17%. Bonus: they benefit from substantially lower noise levels too, now. The aeration process in Sandoz’s effluent treatment plant used to be managed by conventional lobe blowers. After experiencing reliability problems, the company decided to shift to state-of-the-art screw blowers. Atlas Copco’s ZS screw blower with variable speed drive have proven to guarantee reliable performance and energy savings.

Meeting low-carbon economy needs with blowers

Like Sandoz, many industries use air blowers for their processes. Especially those on wastewater treatment plants: aeration air blowers typically represent up to 70% of total electricity costs. Because, in the treatment process, a large quantity of air needs to be blown into the aeration tanks. Atlas Copco’s latest ZS+ range of oil-free, energy-saving, positive displacement screw blowers is designed to meet today’s low-carbon economy needs. Variable Speed Drive technology (VSD) can accurately meet demands for compressed air by adjusting air output based on actual use, reducing energy consumption when not loaded. The result is a considerable reduction of energy consumption.

Compressed air solutions for critical applications

“Our structured approach to minimize our environmental impact has helped us make considerable progress. Our waste management strategy is to prevent, reduce and recycle waste before treatment, incineration or disposal”, says Nitin Chaudhari, Assistant Manager, Engineering, Sandoz Pvt. “The effluent treatment plant is very critical for us to ensure that we walk our talk. Atlas Copco’s low-pressure screw blowers have helped us take an important step towards reducing energy cost and keeping the plant operating efficiently.”
