Five reasons to use an Integrated Controller tool (Tensor IxB) and one reason not to

Atlas Copco’s all-new Tensor IxB tool family consists of two new battery tool options that feature a built-in controller integrated directly into the tool: The Tensor ITB and the Tensor ICB. Allowing for wireless freedom and improved flexibility, the Atlas Copco ITB and ICB integrated controller tools are ideal for a wide range of applications.

In this article, we’ll go through five different reasons you should consider using Atlas Copco’s brand-new Tensor IxB integrated controller tools for your applications, and one reason not to. Read on to learn more!

Why you should use a Tensor IxB tool with an integrated controller

Reason #1: For the integrated controller capabilities

The first reason may be a no-brainer: You can ditch the separate, physical controller! The Tensor ITB and ICB are both cordless, direct drive nutrunners that feature an integrated controller built directly into the tool. Because you no longer need a physical controller per station, you can expect substantial cost savings and a more optimized infrastructure footprint.

Reason #2: Increased accuracy with dual transducers (Tensor ITB only)

The Tensor ITB integrated controller tool houses (optional) dual transducers that future-proof your tightening processes. Allowing for true torque redundancy, the Tensor ITB boosts reliability and saves costs in the Quality department with less tool controls. The dual transducer feature on the Tensor ITB tools also allows for maintenance should an error occur.

The Tensor IxB tools with integrated controllers from Atlas Copco allow for a 60% faster rundown speed than our current generation STB battery tools. Simply put, users can expect a substantial boost to their productivity and process efficiency. Reason #4: Advanced data collection and integration capabilities

Both the Tensor ITB and the Tensor ICB have IAM cards that store a complete backup of your production data, along with all programming preferences, including Psets, batches, and more. Because the integrated controller tools share commonality with the Power Focus 6000 (PF6000), you can run familiar Atlas Copco software solutions (such as ToolsTalk 2, ToolsNet 8, or SQS) with the Tensor IxB tool family.

Reason #5: No additional programming or software required

The Tensor IxB tool family is completely web-based and can be programmed wirelessly or by using a USB. Because of this, there is no additional software required for programming. These tools, as stated above, share commonality with our Power Focus 6000, making for an easy transition and a familiar user interface.

Why you should NOT use a Tensor IxB integrated controller tool

Reason #1: If you require Fieldbus functionality

Currently, there is no Fieldbus standard for the Tensor IxB tool family. For this reason, if you require Fieldbus functionalities, we recommend using or continuing to use a PF6000 controller, along with our current generation battery tools.
