Atlas Copco Rental supports ice blasting of heat recovery steam generator at power plant with high pressure PNS 1250 mobile air compressor

Tri Energy Co. Ltd operates a 700MW Power Plant located in Ratchaburi province, Thailand. It has been long been supplying electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement.

Earlier this year the plant’s Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) efficiency started to drop due to rust and an accumulation of slag in the exchanger tubing. It was time for a cleanup and that is when Precision Iceblast Corporation, the world leader in HRSG cleaning, was contracted for the job.

Precision Iceblast Corporation (PIC) is an independent contracting operation headquartered in USA. They provide ice blasting services to clients in Power Industry, specifically the combined cycle industry. Their dry ice blasting technology is known as the "cleanest" and most "environmentally friendly" way to clean and prep any surface. They follow a strict quality code for all projects and use proprietary and patented technologies to ensure all the tubes inside the modules are deep cleaned, regardless of the size.

The Technology employed is fairly new and makes use of CO2 as an alternative to water for the blasting, steam cleaning and sand blasting. It is today one of the most effective method of cleaning as dry ice is faster than other methods with reduced labor and waste material.

To be able to complete their job PIC immediately contacted Atlas Copco Rental with an enquiry for high pressure compressors and matching dryers.

Thanks to our PNS 1250 mobile high pressure air compressor the entire cleaning process was completed within a week. After this cleaning of the HRSG, the power plant experienced better heat transfer and lower back pressure from the ice blasted areas.
