What is an air compressor?

An air compressor is a machine that utilises compressed air by converting electrical power into potential energy. Kinetic energy is released when this compressed air is released in a quick burst which can be used for many purposes.

There are two main types of air compressors and that is oil-injected or oil-free. Air compressors are used for a variety of commercial and industrial applications.

We here at Atlas Copco are a world leading developer and maker of air compressors and are sure to have the right air compressor for your needs. Gives us a call on 1800 023 469 to find out more.

Explore our different categories of air compressors here.

What is an oxygen generator?

An oxygen generator (also known as an oxygen concentrator) is an alternative device to compressed gas cylinders. The oxygen from a gas supply is filtered by removing nitrogen to supply oxygen-enriched gas.

This pure oxygen is commonly used for medical needs where there must be zero risk of contamination. Keep your oxygen flowing with an oxygen generator.

We supply oxygen generators here at Atlas Copco (along with nitrogen generators) so our customers can ensure their oxygen supply is pure. Call us on 1800 023 469 to find out more about these generators and their benefits. You can also fill out our contact form and someone from our team will be in touch shortly.

Read more about oxygen and nitrogen generation here.

What is an nitrogen generator?

nitrogen generator supplies instrument gas in the most efficient way as it is used to create nitrogen on-site. Producing nitrogen on-site means the supply in unlimited and on demand, resulting in a more cost-effective solution.

There are two ways to produce nitrogen gas and that is a PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) generator and a membrane nitrogen generator.

Here at Atlas Copco we offer a range of nitrogen generators (along with oxygen generators) so our customers have access to a continuous supply of nitrogen.

To find out more about our generators and how they can benefit your business give us a call today on 1800 023 469 or fill out our contact form.

What is an air dryer?

An air dryer removes any water vapor that may have entered your compressed air system. To prevent moisture interfering in the industrial process and condensation occurring, water vapor must be removed from the compressed air. This minimises any operational problems in your compressed air due to excessive water in the system.

There are three main major types of air dryers, which are refrigerant, desiccant and membrane. Here at Atlas Copco we have the major types of air dryers to ensure that your compressor need is met.

Call us today to 1800 023 469 to find the most suitable air dryer for your production.

What is a vane pump?

A vane pump is an oil-sealed positive displacement pump that use a rotating rotor consisting of vanes. The principle of the vane pump is to move fluid through the back and forth movement of the rectangle shaped vanes inside the vane pump.

Vane pumps provide a perfect solution for a variety of applications that require vacuum. Here at Atlas Copco we have a strong focus on proving the best vacuum pumps and solutions, and our vane pumps are an example of this.

To learn more about our rotary vane pumps call 1800 023 469. Read more about oil-seales rotary vane pumps here.

What is a vacuum pump?

A pump is a device that will induce pressure difference between two regions of space. A vacuum pump removes gas/air from a sealed volume and thus leaves behind a partial vacuum. Gas molecules must be moved to create a vacuum. When there is a difference in pressure between two regions the molecules will move.

Vacuum pumps are used in a wide variety of industries and applications. Here at Atlas Copco we continue to make improvements to our state-of-the-art vacuum pumps to ensure you receive the most suitable solution.

Call 1800 023 469 to find out why our vacuum pumps provide the perfect solution. Read more about oil-seales vacuum pumps here.

What is the difference between a screw and piston compressor?

The main difference between a screw and piston (reciprocating) compressor is the way they compress the air. Screw air compressors use two meshing helical screws, while piston air compressors use pistons driven by a crankshaft.

Another difference is the moving parts as the screw compressor has two moving parts which are not in contact while the piston compressor has a lot of moving parts. The screw compressors operate at a lower temperature and integrate a good cooling system.

We are market leaders in air compressors here at Atlas Copco. We use our knowledge and experience to ensure you receive the right compressor based on your needs.

To find out if the screw or piston is more suitable for your needs give us a call on 1800 023 469 or visit our screw compressor page or piston page for more information.

What is the difference between a vacuum pump and an air compressor?

The operating methods of a vacuum pump and an air compressor is a major difference between the two. The efficiency of each can be different as they aim to achieve different needs.

A vacuum pump intakes air from a closed environment resulting in a pump process that is positive discharge with no high pressure, whereas an air compressor intake air from an open environment and compress the air with high pressure.

Both a vacuum pump and an air compressor move a fluid from one location to another, but a vacuum pump uses less power.

Here at Atlas Copco, we have a range of both air compressors and vacuum pumps suitable for your needs. Get in touch with us today on 1800 023 469 or email us here to find out which solution is best for you.

Find the right air compressor for your operations or read more about our energy efficient vacuum solutions for various industrial applications.

What is the difference between an air compressor and an air blower?

The main difference between an air compressor and an air blower is the pressure ratio of each. An air compressor operates at a high pressure to volume ratio, while an air blower tends to operate at a low-pressure ratio.

A compressor crams air into a small space which makes the air denser. A blower moves air/gas with a moderate increase of pressure. The direction of the air being pushed by the blower can be changed by making changes to the blade angle of the blower.

We have both air compressors and blowers here at Atlas Copco that can be used for a wide range of applications. Call us on 1800 023 469 to find out which is more suitable for your production.

What is the difference between FSD and VSD?

A FSD is a Fixed Speed Drive and a VSD is a Variable Speed Drive, with the main difference being the way the motor is controlled. A fixed speed compressor provides the motor with frequency and voltage at a consistent rate. A variable speed drive however automatically adjusts the motor speed and elements to the air demand.

Here at Atlas Copco we are market leaders in air compressors and are sure to have the most appropriate compressor based on your needs. To speak to someone about your options and if you require fixed speed or variable speed call us on 1800 023 469
