Using a remote compressor connection to boost reliability

Looking after a compressor room is an important job. SMARTLINK, the remote compressor connection from Atlas Copco, makes it a lot easier.

Compressed air is essential to countless industrial operations. That is why the person in charge of the compressor room bears a major responsibility. Most importantly, they have to keep the equipment running and prevent expensive shutdowns. But what if they aren't on site and a problem occurs? If you are using a remote compressor connection, there is nothing to worry about.

Imagine this situation: You're responsible for your compressed air system but are off-site. Back in your compressor room, the temperature of your compressor is rising.

There are two ways in which this can go. First, let’s assume you don't have a remote compressor connection. In this case, somebody who is at your facility has to notice the spike.

Next, they have to get in touch with you. Finally, based on their description of the issue, you have to come up with a way to fix it.

All of this takes time and there is the potential that things will go wrong.

A remote compressor connection comes to the rescue

But what if you have a remote compressor connection? Then it’s a different story, especially if you are using SMARTLINK from Atlas Copco – the cream of the crop among remote compressor monitoring solutions.

The scenario is the same: You're away from your compressor room and the temperature of your compressor keeps going up. This time, SMARTLINK notices the problem and notifies you immediately. Depending on your own preferences, you’ll get a push notification from the SMARTLINK app, a text message, an email, or all three.

But SMARTLINK doesn't merely alert you to the issue. It offers an analysis of the problem and what you can do to fix it.

In this case, using many different data points, it detects the rising temperature and collects a lot more helpful information. For example, let's say the temperature is going up at the inlet and the outlet. That means the issue may be related to a problem with ventilation.

If the inlet temperature has remained constant but the outlet temperature is up, you should first check the cooler.

All you have to do is get in touch with your team and give them instructions on what to do.

But there is more.

Atlas Copco's specialists get the information at the same time you do. If you reach out to them to get advice on what to do, they will be aware of the issue. And, if you have a service agreement with Atlas Copco, a technician may already be on the way.

Smart technology getting smarter

Another benefit is that SMARTLINK keeps learning all the time. With each data point it receives, and there are millions of them every single hour, it learns more. As a result, it can give users more advanced insights into their air system and even more recommendations on how to optimize its performance.

By the way, SMARTLINK doesn't just increase your reliability but also your energy efficiency. It monitors the performance of your compressor and offers suggestions on making your model run better.
