Embalaža hrane in pijač

Dušik se uporablja na različnih stopnjah proizvodnje, ravnanja in pakiranja pijač.

Zaradi svojih inertnih, brezbarvnih lastnosti in vonja se uporablja za izpodrivanje ali nadomeščanje zraka, z namenom zmanjšanja tveganja za poslabšanje lastnosti končnega izdelka.

V sadnih sokovih je na primer oksidacija vitamina C morda eden najpomembnejših dejavnikov. Uporaba dušika v rezervoarjih, posodah, ceveh in steklenicah preprečuje to oksidacijo. Za odstranitev kisika, raztopljenega v soku, dušik prehaja skozi tekočino in tvori mehurčke, ki prenašajo kisik, ki se nato izloči iz soka.

V vinarstvu se dušik uporablja za preprečevanje oksidacije, kar omogoča uporabo manj aditivov. Tudi kislost, barva, arome in naravni okus vina bodo dobro ohranjeni. Uporaba dušika bo omogočila daljši čas skladiščenja brez spreminjanja primarne kakovosti vina.

Dušik je v vodi praktično netopljiv in je zato idealen za prenos vina. Za zagotovitev maksimalne higiene steklenice pred polnjenjem operemo in posušimo z dušikom. Sušenje poteka hitreje kot pri običajnem zraku, ker zaradi proizvodnega generatorja dušika na kraju samem postane zelo suh plin.
Na koncu steklenico po napolnjenosti in pred nameščanjem plute očistimo z dušikom, da preprečimo prisotnost ostanka zraka v vratu steklenice.
