Learn the ins and outs of Atlas Copco’s all-new screw feeding system

There are several noticeable benefits to incorporating Atlas Copco’s screw feeding system into your assembly. Atlas Copco’s screw feeding solution: What is it?

Our screw feeder is a system that automatically dispenses screws to the tightening tool. This eliminates two steps in the process: obtaining the screw and positioning it for tightening. Now, operators can keep tightening without any interruptions. This is possible due to the systems’ step feeder, which stores all the screws before they are sorted and dispensed with a series of cables attached to the system.

Improving the production process

There are several benefits to using Atlas Copco's screw feeder system. Increased uptime and improved productivity are among these benefits. Since the system dispenses screws automatically, operators can complete tasks faster than the alternative: manually locating screws and positioning them for tightening. This reduces downtime and enables operators to get more done. Furthermore, the screw feeder is equipped with a swivel arm which preloads the next screw inside during the rundown. In this way, as soon as the operator is finished tightening a screw, the feeder is already dispensing another screw for the operator. This can reduce the tightening cycle time of the application.

The process of the system dispensing screws also reduces the occurrence of errors, thus improving quality. Since the screws needed for the task are dispensed into the systems’ step feeder and automatically loaded into the tightening tool, there is less room for human error. The incorrect screws won’t be accidentally loaded into the tool during the process, ensuring that the task is being completed correctly.

Good ergonomics is essential on the line, which is why our screw feeding system is ergonomically designed. With the available trigger options and the optional pistol grip, the handheld tightening module is the perfect match for both vertical and horizontal handheld applications with the best operator ergonomics. Implementing ergonomic features into the system protects operators from harm, improves production, and thus lowers the overall medical costs for employees and companies. Additionally, by pairing the screw feeding system with an articulated arm, less weight is exerted on the operators. This boosts the operator experience and improves ergonomics on the line.

In addition to protecting operators, the screw feeding system has mechanisms in place that protect the system and makes for easy maintenance. The patented vertical wall inside the system lowers the vibration level of the inner components which results in less environmental noise. The wall also leads to less damage on the screws and protective coatings and easy maintenance access to all the functional feeding components mounted to it. These features help to improve uptime by making maintenance fast and the intervals less frequent.
