Advanced tightening strategies

Get the job done right the first time

Made possible with an advanced tightening contoller such as the Power Focus 6000 (PF6000) and a Smart tool, advanced tightening strategies from Atlas Copco can help your plant achieve faultless, ergonomic tightenings in any application.

In addition to the more basic bolt tightening methods available on most torque controllers (such as Angle/Torque Monitoring and Control, Yield, One-step, etc.), there are five different advanced tightening strategies from Atlas Copco that significantly improve operator safety and ergonomics, detect common assembly errors in production, and much more!

TrueAngle

Available for the Tensor STR tool only, TrueAngle utilizes the PF6000 and a gyro signal integrated into the tool to measure the unintentional influence an operator brings to a tightening and compensates accordingly by adding or subtracting values during a tightening.

In addition to eliminating operator influence on the tightening angle during the tightening phase, TrueAngle can also detect common assembly errors, such as:

• Missing or incorrect components

• Crossed or damaged threads

• Premature tool shut offs

Multistep

Atlas Copco’s Multistep is an advanced tightening strategy that allows for a tightening to be completed in several customizable steps. Multistep is optimized so that each step in the Multistep program can be configured individually to complete the tightening in one single trigger pull.

With the opportunity to fine tune various configuration options, a Multistep tightening strategy can be customized to meet the specific requirements of the bolt and of the application.

TensorPulse

TensorPulse is another advanced, low reaction tightening strategy that can be used on Atlas Copco’s cordless Tensor SRB and cabled Tensor STR nutunners. TensorPulse delivers consistent pulses during a tightening until the target torque is reached, at which time the tool shuts off.

Providing impressively ergonomic, fast tightenings for both soft and hard joints, TensorPulse is smart, flexible, and impressively ergonomic. In addition, TensorPulse enables lean manufacturing by:

• Significantly reducing the reaction force absorbed by the operator

• Allowing for the potential elimination of reaction devices

• Decreasing tightening time

TurboTight

The TurboTight low reaction tightening strategy monitors joint stiffness during a tightening cycle and calculates the energy required to reach a target torque. Using a PF6000 and a low reaction tool such as the Tensor STR, TurboTight times the tool’s slowdown phase to the exact millisecond that the target torque is reached.

As a result, the reaction force in the tool can be almost completely eliminated, providing your operators with a substantial boost in safety and ergonomics. In addition, the TurboTight tightening strategy can:

• Significantly increase plant productivity

• Reduce the need for reaction devices

• Increase accessibility in space-challenged applications

• Decrease hardware costs

Impulse

Atlas Copco’s Impulse tightening strategy is another low reaction bolt tightening method that uses a specific algorithm to control the motor and adjust the tool between each pulse generated. This creates a low mean shift and provides the tool the ability to handle even the most demanding of applications.

In conjunction with a PF6000, the Impulse tightening strategy can be run only on an Atlas Copco TBP cordless pulse tool. With an Impulse strategy, tightening is configured in three different stages and users can input a variety of tightening configuration options, including:

• Target torque

• Attachment tuning (enabled or disabled)

• Tightening parameters

• Loosening parameters
