Every manufacturing facility is unique, with its own ecosystem of products, tools, and processes designed to achieve specific goals. Industry 4.0 is paving the way for versatile tools that adapt seamlessly to meet your distinct requirements.
In the era of Industry 4.0, tool adaptability is changing the way we manufacture. As tools become smarter and more versatile, we can choose which features and benefits best suit our operators and applications. As manufacturing variants become more common in assembly, operators need a tooling ensemble to keep up with changes as they occur. This increases productivity and quality and gives you a competitive edge against the competition by enhancing your assembly. In this article, you will discover how one customer harnessed the power of transitioning from STB to Tensor IxB tools and how you can too! Read on to discover more.
Recognizing the need for flexibility in assembly
In this case, our customer had great Wi-Fi infrastructure and communication with their tools; however, they faced two key challenges with adopting the Integrated Controller for IxB tools. Some lines required field bus communication, and they valued the ability to make quick adjustments with their controllers within workstations. That was until our experts introduced them to the capabilities of Tensor IxB connected to the Power Focus 8.
Pass the Torque
Our customer initially used Power Focus 4000 and 6000 controllers with STB, TBP, and ST tools. This ensemble worked great for their needs and preferences. That was until our experts were able to showcase a new solution to them: the Tensor IxB tool connected to the Power Focus 8 (PF8).
This dynamic duo is impressive for several reasons, which you can learn about here, but for the sake of this article, we will analyze the features that stood out to this customer. First, they were pleased to know that IxB shares a common battery portfolio with our TBP tools. Because this customer had a large population of TBP tools, managing two different battery types was a headache. By replacing their STB tools with IxB tools, they wouldn’t have to deal with the hassle of keeping track of the different batteries for each tool.
Our customer also liked this solution because the settings could be changed through the micro USB port without connecting the tool to a docking station. This reduced downtime and hardware costs.

Tools that drive results: A recap
When it's time to enhance your STB tools, consider Atlas Copco’s Tensor IxB tools. These tools deliver advanced wireless capabilities, improved efficiency, and effortless integration, backed by Atlas Copco's expertise.
Our customer was pleased to make the switch and improve their production processes. In addition to the previously mentioned requirements, they also like the consistency of the hardware and the convenience of having their MES manage only a single IP address from the controller, rather than needing a separate address for each tool as would be necessary with the Integrated Controller on the tool.
