In The Lab: M24 Bolt Torque Test

Jason Benford 1 minute(s) to read November 21, 2021

Tune in as Jason Benford, Atlas Copco’s Tightening Services Lab Manager, offers viewers a look at a bolt failure test with an M24 bolt.

Torque to failure tests are performed in our laboratory to generate data that is used to develop torque specs and tightening processes. The torque was applied with an Atlas Copco QST95-1750 at a speed of 60 rpm, which is about 10 times faster than the recommended tightening speed. An M24 10.9 bolt has the capacity to generate over 80,000 pounds of clamping force!
