ILM

In today's world, it's very common for customers to have a multitude of battery tools in their plants. With so many wireless tools, there's the risk that an operator may use one of the tools in the incorrect station, on the wrong bolts. Industrial Location Mapping (ILM) is Atlas Copco’s simple location solution to ensure your tool is only working where it is supposed to. In this series, we will take a deep dive into all of the great features ILM has to offer, and how it is changing the industry!

ILM is composed of the following hardware:

  • ILM Anchor – the reference point for UWB-based localization and has the following features: built-in movement detecion, low power consumption (24V or even PoE - Power over Ethernet) and can be connected with external systems via network

  • ILM Tool Tags – power supply directly from the tool, built-in orientation detection, tool tag can simulate a second-start-trigger for easy integration, no software interfaces required

ILM

ILM is designed with the capability to differentiate between fasteners that are at least 30 cm or further apart when used in the advanced mode, and can handle a complete production or a single station, and ensures that tightening is only allowed in the correct area using a virtual barrier using UWB technology to create coordinates. The easy integration from the tool tag allows the tool to be more accurate and specific to each vehicle on the line using ILM.

When setting up an ILM system, it's important to make sure the anchors don't get shaken or knocked down, but a huge benefit of the system is that they do not need to be within line of sight of the tool tag, as ILM uses UWB technology!

To sum it up, ILM is an easy solution to tie a tool to each station to error proof your line and eliminate many other risks that could cause harm to your production.
