Industrial Location Mapping: The answer to your workstation obstacles

3 minute(s) to read

Many manufacturers today have mandates they have to follow to ensure that all of their quotas are met for a given period of time.

By implementing error-proofing techniques, companies can significantly improve product quality, reduce waste, and enhance overall efficiency. There are various methods for error-proofing an assembly line, from simple visual cues to advanced technological solutions.

When partnering with Atlas Copco, our team of industry professionals walks your line to make sure the transition to Smart Integrated Assembly is a smooth one. Together, we'll determine how Atlas Copco solutions can be implemented into your production to keep it running at maximum efficiency.

Situation

This customer has a corporate mandate to ensure all ground screws are 100% error-proofed and documented. Torque is assigned to the customer's internal protocol ID. The battery tray and ground screw applications are currently in the same station. The sockets are the same size, and all are using the same torque. The customer currently has an ETV STR30-10 in the station. They reached out to Atlas Copco and a competitor for possible solutions to ensure they were 100% error-proofed.

Atlas Copco’s Solution

Initially the customer requested a quote for an Industrial Location Spotpoint (ILS) system. After walking the line, our salesperson noted that due to the orientation of the fasteners, we could achieve the customer’s objective with our Industrial Location Mapping (ILM)’s Basic Mode and the Batch Sequence function in our Power Focus 6000. The solution was able to identify and distinguish between the top battery plate bolts and the horizontal screws, selecting the proper tightening program based on the tool's orientation. The solution was proven efficient during the ILM demonstration on the product at the station, without interfering with the pace of production.

Although the customer initially was interested in a quote for ILS, our salesperson thought that ILS would be “overkill”, and we could accomplish their goals with ILM instead. In turn, this saved the customer money without compromising any quality while ensuring 100% error-proofing.

ILM improves productivity, human interaction, and reduces complexity on the line. The commitment to integration by simplifying rebalancing, quality, reducing or mitigating rework, and flexibility makes Atlas Copco’s Industrial Location solutions the ultimate solution for error-proofing your line.
