When a major manufacturer in the automotive industry reached out with plans to cut costs by the end of the year, our experts got to work and figured out where their application was costing them extra time and money to complete. The dilemma

Our customer was dealing with a plant mandate to cut costs by the end of the year but was unsure how. When our experts heard their dilemma, they set out to find a solution that would satisfy their goals. One of our customers discussed an application with our experts that was causing them to spend thousands of dollars in takt time and manpower to complete for ergonomics sake.

In order to save money and improve their uptime, our customer needed a way to save time during this part of the application. Previously, they had two operators per shift who must move a heavy skid plate to install bushings. If they could remove the step of moving the heavy skid plate, they could significantly optimize assembly. That’s where the experts at Atlas Copco got to work finding the perfect solution.

Customizing your solutions

We knew that with the right solution, we could not only speed up the process but also relieve one of the operators from each shift of this application, enabling our customer to reallocate the extra operators to other areas of the facility.

So, we introduced them to the Tensor STR and our plans for a custom trombone and screw press concept that would solve their issues. With this custom solution, our customer would be able to reduce the application’s manpower in half due to no longer needing to move the skid plate to reach the bushings. That’s right! The custom attachment on the tool will enable one operator to complete the same amount of work as two operators in less time.

Operator experience

Not only will this custom solution increase their production, but it will also improve their operator ergonomics. Before, two operators had to work together to move a heavy skid. Now the skid doesn’t need to be moved at all, thus improving their ergonomics and operator experience.
